About Us

"Tobacco Road" refers to the tobacco-producing area of North Carolina and is often used when referring to sports (particularly basketball) played among rival North Carolina universities.

After many years of heavy hands-on healthcare IT experience at Duke University Health System and after secondary research into the healthcare IT services market, Tobacco Road Technologies was formed to address the significantly underserved segment in healthcare with regards to Patient Safety and Risk Management. The company is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Extensive development experience in web-based Healthcare, Banking, Brokerage, and Insurance applications with 35+ years in software development with a proven record harnessing the power of Open Source solutions along with custom development efforts for shortened delivery time and increased productivity.

Management

The core management team of Tobacco Road Technologies includes executives with successful backgrounds in the software industry and experience with startup operations.

Craig Lightfoot, 44 is Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Lightfoot has spent his entire career delivering business value through the design and use of technology. He worked as a Senior Systems Engineer for EDS for 10 years working with EDS's largest banking and insurance customers. Mr. Lightfoot later moved to Syntel, Inc. as the Director of Advanced Technology, where he designed and developed enterprise architectures for Syntel's Fortune 1000 customers. At Syntel, he was an early adopter of utilizing offshore resources for applications development. He then became a Technical Advisor for Fusion Ventures, an incubator in the Durham, NC area, exiting Fusion Ventures along with one of their portfolio companies, OpenMind Publishing, to become CTO. Most recently, he was Director, Internet and Web Strategies for the Duke University Health System.

Betsy Eble, 37 is Co-Founder and Chief Strategic Officer. Mrs. Eble excels at distilling customer needs into highly usable products. Her experience includes 15 years of product design in the areas of computer-based curriculum, corporate branding, multimedia development and application design. For the past decade, she has been involved in all aspects of application development for web-based products. At S1, formerly Security First Technologies whose client list included Citigroup, State Farm and Wachovia she served as Lead Interface Architect on the banking and insurance products. With Duke University Health System, she led web-based product iniatives for the the Health System and School of Medicine.
